Personal Safety Equipment observations following Hurricane Irene

hurricane eyewear protectionUnless you've been living under a rock, you watched the progression of Hurricane Irene up the East Coast of the United States. Before we go further, we hope that all our friends and distributors from North Carolina to New England have safely endured the storm.

Now, back to our point

Did anyone notice something disturbing while watching the television coverage of the storm? In nearly every shot where a reporter was standing in the rain and wind, they were missing a very important piece of equipment. They had the cameras, microphones, lights, satellite trucks and other expensive equipment. But, they were missing eyewear protection. Specifically, the CNN reporters were without protection for their eyes.

What kind of example are these individuals setting? They're telling people to get out of the storm's way, stay inside or evacuate. It's crazy enough that they're standing in the middle of a hurricane, let alone doing so without protection for their eyes. Several reporters were visibly squinting trying to keep the wind and rain from their eyes. What would it hurt for them to wear a pair of safety glasses with clear lenses and an elastic band to ensure the safety of their eyes?

At the end of the day, we want everyone to be safe. We hope that the poor example of ignoring personal safety equipment set by the national media (CNN, Weather Channel, MSNBC, etc.) for their employees will not be duplicated by the professionals who will be responsible for cleaning up the mess left by Irene.

God Speed and we hope that everyone affected by this storm returns to their way of life as quickly and safely as possible.
